English to Dutch Other Livestock / Animal Husbandry cows

In early lactation a period of negative energy balance occurs when a cow's appetite lags behind the increased energy and nutrient requirement for milk production - so she milks off her back ot maintain yield. But excessive mobilisation of body fat can result in ketosis...

I think they mean that she uses body fat to produce milk but does anyone know a good Dutch expression for this?
