Relatively strong winds that are concentrated in a narrow band in the atmosphere. Jet Streams are usually thousands of kilometers long, hundreds of kilometers wide but only a few kilometers thick. They are usually found between 6 and 10 miles above the surface.

Suihkuvirtaus on ylhäällä troposfäärissä kulkeva putkimainen nopean tuulen vyöhyke. Suihkuvirtauksen leveys on 300–500 kilometriä ja paksuus korkeintaan noin 3 kilometriä. Keskimääräinen nopeus on 30–60 m/s. Suihkuvirtaus sijaitsee suunnilleen matalapaineen reitillä ja ilmamassojen rajalla. Se kiemurtelee käärmemäisesti, ja näkyy monesti satelliittikuvissa selvänä nauhamaisena pilvimuodostumana.
