Discussion

Tony M Feb 2, 2016:
@ Asker Well, 'a month end' is a noun, akin perhaps to 'clôture', and so there is no reason why you can't count them too — even though of course it is the months that are plural. It might be easier to understand had it been hyphenated, as it traditionally would have been in EN-GB: 'month-end'.

Merci!
Exemple Mois - 2, Mois -3 etc...

Généralement en compta française les données sont présentées sur Année Courante / Année Précédente...
Marie-Yvonne Dulac (asker) Feb 2, 2016:
and when in the plural ? i.e. "3 month ends prior"
Tony M Feb 2, 2016:
@ Asker A 'month/quarter/year end' refers to the closure of accounts at the end of each month etc. I have a feeling this term has come up before, so it might be worth doing a term search for it in the glossary.
'prior' here just means 'previous' — i.e. the month end for the previous month, the month before that, etc.

Là, il faut un peu de contexte

Fin du mois précédent

Same with Quarter / Year...

Fin du trimestre précédent
Fin de l'année précédente
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : That's potentially ambiguous, since the current month-end is actually the 'fin du mois précédent'; and how would you then translate '2 month-ends prior'? 'fin du mois de 2 mois avant' ?

C'est vrai Tony. Current month-end would be fin du mois courant. Je pense qu'un format abrégé serait plus efficace.
