English term

docket sounding

English to French Law/Patents Law (general) Pre-trial proceedings
Docket Sounding in felony court is the last effort of the judge and the attorneys involved to schedule specific days and times for trials just prior to the beginning of the trial docket. All victims and witnesses will receive a subpoena for a time certain when scheduled.

Pre-Trial hearings and Docket Sounding in misdemeanor court are similar to Case Management and Docket Sounding in felony court with the exception that, generally, the judge will accept a defendant’s plea of “No Contest” or “Guilty” at any of these times. When no such plea is presented, a trial date is set and victims and witnesses are usually notified by subpoena.

@AllegroTrans The term was part of a list of procedures. Thank you for your input!
AllegroTrans Nov 2, 2023:

Asker Your text appears to be a definition. What exactly is the document you are translating? Or is this simply here for glossary building?

-> in a (serious offens/ce) *felony* court, as opposed to a less serious misdemeano(u)rs court, a distinction between the seriousness of offenc/ses that used to obtain (prevail) in the UK pre-1968, coinciding with my start on an earnest and grave study of the law, felonies going to serious. arrestable offences and misdemeanours changing to non-serious, non-arrestable offences.

Docket in UK export or department store requisition would connote a 'bordereau', the court register being a non-musical 'sounding' cause or case list and, in Scotland, the court calling list or rolls.

First discussion entry: I considered phase d'instruction as a 'fuzzy match', but found mise en état as a pre-trial review in civil cases only (pre-1998 in E&W, a summons for directions in the High Court).
Example sentence:

IATE: en docket CdT cause book CdT cause list CdT motions day list CdT trial list CdT fr rôle CdT

"Docket Sounding" in English translates as "audience préparatoire" in French because it refers to a pre-trial hearing where specific dates and times for trials are scheduled and where the judge accepts the defendant's plea or sets a trial date.
