English term or phrase: trim the fat
We blogged about habits recently: how examining your cemented routines and proceeding to shake things up if they don't make sense has a positive effect on your productivity, focus, and even creativity. It's important to occasionally reassess what we do on auto-pilot so that we trim the fat and keep only what is helpful.

neutral  Tony M: That's perhaps a rather different image, more about e.g. skimming the fat off a liquid, rather than the notion of 'parer', really ruthlessly cutting out what is flabby and unnecessary!
