English term

anti-nuts

English to French Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
Also check that the turrets of the Sub-D9 connectors are properly fastened, with washers on the front and anti-nuts on the rear.

Discussion

Tony M Mar 10, 2018:
@ Lorraine I think that's the whole point: they're not really 'anti-' anything — I can't believe it would ever be correctly expressed this way in proper technical EN.
I think David is right in surmising this must be a text originally in another language — which oddly enough could even have been FR in the first place! Note that in EN we can say 'counter-nut' too, even though that is perhaps not the commonest way of expressing the same idea.
Lorraine Dubuc Mar 10, 2018:
anti what? If only they would specify anti theft, anti vibration, anti backlash...
florence metzger Mar 10, 2018:

Contre-écrous

Mauvaise traduction de contre-écrou ?!
Note from asker:
Merci David, je pense effectivement que cela a été écrit par un non-natif.
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : Yes, it sounds very much as if the EN here is already a poor translation!

disagree Tony M : Wouldn't make any technical sense in FR at all.

disagree david henrion : Vous pourriez nous expliquer ? Mon-1 est là pour indiquer que je ne trouve aucune justification technique à votre suggestion. Mais si vous en avez une je suis prêt à modifier ça.

anti-dévissage par friction

The nut is coated with an anti-friction surface treatment.

Les connecteurs doivent être correctement fixés.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Although that might describe what is happening here, it does not describe the actual hardware used; and your explanation about "an anti-friction surface treatment" is exactly opposite what's required here, where maximum friction is important! 'Lock nuts'
