menace des tendances autodestructrices Explanation: "treat" est "threat" sur "nihilism": Cornel West, qui semble être l'auteur auquel le rédacteur se réfère donne sa définition de "nihilism" de la façon suivante: " the lived experience of coping with a life of horrifying meaninglessness, hopelessness, and (most important) lovelessness.” extrait d'un texte plus large qui nous aide à comprendre: "Nihilism in Black America In this first chapter, West discusses the two camps that people who analyze the plight of African-Americans tend to fall into; the liberals who recognize the omnipresent dynamics working to the detriment of blacks, and the conservative behaviorists who stress that the way black people act and live is at the root of their problem. The author points out that neither of these camps are completely correct because they are related; how a people act and lived are shaped (though not controlled by) the situation in which they live. So, while both of these arguments do have valid points, they both fail to address one essential concern. Cornel West hypothesizes that nihilism is the most probable cause for the depressed state of African-Americans in this country. Defining nihilism as, “the lived experience of coping with a life of horrifying meaninglessness, hopelessness, and (most important) lovelessness.” The author does an impressive job of tracing black nihilism back to the early days of American slavery, and defining the powerful buffers that black foremothers and forefathers created to ward off the feeling of hopelessness. As an example of the effectiveness of the defense, he discusses the fact that until the early Seventies, African-Americans had the lowest suicide rates in the United States. At the end of the chapter, West conjectures that the reason these buffers against nihilism have been significantly weakened as of late is because of the cutthroat capitalist market that African-Americans have been immersed in without significant resources, and the current crisis of black leadership (or the lack thereof). To help lessen the nihilistic threat, West introduces his idea of the Politics of Conversion. This concept combines the best arguments of the liberals and conservatives, addressing the structural conditions that shapes the suffering of black people as well as addressing their self-destructive and brutal actions, but also it promotes self-worth and self-affirmation." http://www.epinions.com/content_66708541060 traduire par "nihilisme" est correct mais risque d'engendre un peu de confusion sans préciser vraiment ce qu'il en est, au sens de l'auteur Ce nihilisme en question est tourné contre soi-même (en tant qu'individu ou en tant que groupe social), à la différence du nihilisme tel qu'on l'entend généralement et qui, dans un contexte social, est dirigé vers l'ensemble de la société (à mon avis CW adresse ici d'abord et davantage les tendances autodestructices, plus que simplement destructrices) |
