המונח תימרת מעטפת מתאר תופעה גאולוגית משוערת שבה זרם של חומר סלעי שהוא חם יותר מסביבתו, מיתמר מעלה בתנועה איטית, מהגבול שבין המעטפת לגלעין כדור הארץ, דרך מעטפת כדור הארץ כלפי קרום כדור הארץ. על פי המודל ניתך הקצה העליון של תימרות המעטפת, המכונה ראש התימרה, בצורה חלקית בהגיעו לעומק רדוד (כלומר בקרבת קרום כדור הארץ), ולכן משערים כי תימרות מעטפת הן הסיבה למרכזים של פעילות געשית המכונים נקודות חמות, וכנראה שהן גרמו גם להיווצרות רמות בזלתיות.
