Please, how do you refer to the single apostrophe and double apostrophe in Hebrew, i.e. what are the Hebrew names used e.g. when teaching children about them at school?

Please don't forget to tell the children, that both characters are actually CANTILLATION MARKS from Tanach, borrowed for the modern use.

an apostrophe is GERESH; when you have two of them, it's GERSHAIYM;

בעברית מקצרים תיבות בגרש (תיבה אחת) או בגרשיים (שתי תיבות ויותר) ולא בנקודות.
דוגמאות: מס' [=מספר], רח' [=רחוב], ת"ד [=תא דואר].
את המילה דוקטור מקצרים כך: ד"ר.
