This is the term irrespective of whether the woman is converting "because she is marrying a Jewish man". In fact, at least within Orthodox and Conservative Judaism, if marriage is the motivation, the conversion typically would take place prior to the wedding so that the couple could have some form of traditional Jewish wedding.

Todah, Tzviya.
agree Lingopro : Gioret is specifically the term for a woman who converts to Judaism, irrespective of marriage. As Robert said, conversion usually takes place before marriage.

Todah, Zehavit.
agree Textpertise : Gioret is female convert irrespective of marital status. Disagree that conversion usually happens before marriage because marriage as objective for conversion is frowned upon. Remarriage in Jewish religious ceremony often takes place after conversion.

Thank you, Texptertise. I have no hard evidence either way, and was only going by my impressions within a US context. From what I've seen, if difference is an issue, then it is an issue prior to marriage and not afterward. In any case, thank you.
