कहां लिप्यंतरण करें और कहां अनुवाद इसका फैसला करते समय संतुलन बनाए रखना आवश्यक है। लॉगइन, वेबसाइट, इंटरनेट, नेटवर्किंग जैसे शब्द चल पड़े हैं और इनका हमारे यहां पहले से प्रचलित पर्यायवाची भी नहीं था, इसलिए इन्हें इसी रूप में अपनाना उचित होगा। इन्हें ग्रहण किया जा चुका है। यह भी देखा जाना चाहिए किसी शब्द को पहले से कितने व्यापक रूप में अपना लिया गया है। 'सामाजिक नेटवर्किंग' शब्द को, जैसा कि मैंने उल्लेख किया है, बड़े व्यापक स्तर पर ग्रहण किया जा चुका है।

विनीता जी आज कल सारे समाचार पत्रों, पत्रिकाओं और इन्टरनेट पर शोशल नेटवर्किंग शब्द का धड़ल्ले से उपयोग किया जा रहा है, तो ऐसे में मुझे लगता है कि ग्राहक को भी मानना चाहिए. वैसे मैं एक बार इसका अनुवाद 'सोशल नेटवर्किंग' के रूप में कर चुका हूँ, और मुझे ग्राहक की ओर से कोई शिकायत नहीं मिली थी.

सोशल नेटवर्किंग सोशल मीडिया -- फ़ेसबुक, ट्विटर, लिंक्डइन इत्यादि -- के माध्यम से की जाती है। इन्हें इलेक्ट्रॉनिक या डिजिटल मीडिया भी कहा जा सकता है (हालांकि इलेक्ट्रॉनिक या डिजिटल मीडिया का अर्थ अपेक्षतया व्यापक है)। मेरे विचार से 'डिजिटल दुनियादारी' अच्छा जुमला है पर व्यावसायिक अनुवाद में ग्राहक को शायद ही पसन्द आए।
