Case study
In France, XXX factories have chosen agricultural recycling as a means to recycle some of their manufacturing by-products such as potato peelings, milk powder, cereals or organic sewage sludge. As these materials have a great agronomic interest and nutritive potential, XXX factories prefer to recycle these by-products as agricultural organic fertilizers by land-spreading or as animal feed rather than incinerating or land-filling them.
Both forms of recycling, land spreading and animal feeding, are common agricultural practices in France that meet highest standards of safety. Only by-products that present a real nutritive value and a satisfying sanitary aspect will be used.
To ensure full tractability, agronomic benefit and safety of these practices, XXX closely cooperates with farmers, local authorities and specialists. For the management of land spreading, for instance, Nestlé calls upon specialized firms which guarantee that the process is handled with respect for the environment and in compliance with the Agricultural Best Practices Code. In addition,
to help farmers make best use of land spreading, Nestlé provides them with free soil analyses and fertilization advice. Besides reducing incineration and land filling, the recycling of by-products through land spreading has another important environmental benefit: the reduction of the use of chemical fertilizers thanks to the replacement by organic by-products.

reflui (zootecnici) organici
