In The Ship that Saw a Ghost (http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/etcbin/browse-mixed-new?id=Nor... by Frank Norris there's a sentence I can't translate into Italian. It says:
"We're clean, clean out o' the track of navigation,"
I can't understand what 'clean' means: is it 'preciso', 'esatto'? Does it mean that they are exactly out of track? How would you translate this into Italian?
thanks a lot!

"Clean" viene usato anche per enfatizzare la completezza/totalità di qualcosa (uso informale). Ti scrivo un esempio dall'Oxford:
"I clean forgot her birthday."
"I clean forgot her birthday."
