休暇はどうだった?休暇はどうでしたか? Explanation: Written in Roma-Ji, the first one is "Kyuuka wa dou datta?". As you know there are always two ways in stating things whether it's written or oral -- casual(informal) and formal. My first answer is the former. The latter "Kyuuka wa dou deshita ka?" is formal or more courteous (addressed to someone whose social status is higher than you). Of course "your" is omitted in Japanese translation, as it is agreed among the people exchanging the conversation. Therefore if you want it thorough then the translation would be "Anata no kyuuka wa .......?". However it sounds awkward in real life setting, so you would wish to omit it. Hope this helps. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2004-05-13 18:32:15 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Japanese word for \"vacation\" is \"kyuuka\". \"Ryokou\" is travel or trip, it is not necessary a vacation (as business trip). |
