Dacă repari o mașină sau schimbi cauciucurile ți se adaugă un cost pentru reciclarea pieselor schimbate, deci pentru a le trimite la "deșeuri".
În tehnologia pulberilor, totuși, acest termen are o semnificație diferită.
Considerând că materia primă pentru tehnologia pulberilor sunt deșeurile, iar costul acestora variază, ca și al altor materii prime și minereuri, de câte ori se calculează prețurile se lasă această componentă variabilă, în funcție de "costul variabil al deșeurilor folosite ca materie primă".
E o taxă, o componentă suplimentară variabilă a costului total al piesei sinterizate.

“The Alloy surcharge (VEA) is added to the base price and reflects the true raw material purchase cost included in the various steels produced by Erasteel.
Published quarterly, each grade surcharge results from the addition of the extras for main alloying elements, namely W, Mo, V, Co, Cr, Nb and scrap.
The alloy surcharge is based on the official quotations above a reference price, minus the reference price. The calculation is made by the SPAS, an external body, and is based on Metal Bulletin and Eurostat average values.
