Construction Sequence

1. Prepare and compact rail formation with suitable grades and cross falls to facilitate drainage away from the track. In confined tunnels or mine development drives the subsurface or surface drainage is drained to side drains to ensure the formation is kept dry. Water must be managed to flow away from the track structure continuously or as soon as possible in all cases and this must be included in final designs
2. Drainage option can be to include geo-pipes in the formation to allow for sub-surface water to be directed to the side drains (further detail with designs)
3. The top of the track formation must be graded, levelled and compacted to specified surveyed tolerances to ensure an acceptable average filler grout thickness. This action to avoid excess filler grout gaps resulting in increased installation costs
4. Transport required rails into position (two rails every 45ft or 13.72m) and place against side wall along alignment for later use
5. Transport TMT modules and place along centre line of tunnel. Each module will have centre marks on the gauge bars for easy initial horizontal alignment picked up off a surveyed centre line. Spacing between modules – 4” or 100mm nominal
6. Place resilient pad on rail seat area of modules
7. Lift and place rails onto modules, insert gpi’s and fasteners. Ensure resilient pad is directly under fail foot
8. Using spreader beams and rail jacks, lift, align and level track to final position.
9. Insert wooden wedges to maintain alignment
10. Install shutters (formwork) on outside of modules
11. Place concrete under modules up to and against outer shutters and in centre of module beams which will form the centre drain.
12. Weld and grind joints
