The diagnostic advantages of MRI scanning of the brain at 3T vs 1.5T make static magnetic field strength an important consideration for implanted pacing systems: static magnetic field strength was explored by Naehle et al.157 and published in 2008. They performed both clinical and in-vitro work at a 3T scan level on 44 consecutively scanned patients. Serum troponin I levels were obtained as a surrogate indicator of myocardial thermal injury. In addition, for their in-vitro work at 3T they im-planted a phantom to study pacemaker case acceleration, torque and translation, device parameter changes and device lead RF heating.
