Using the control signal move the valve towards the closed position, at the same time slowly rotate the valve stem using a spanner on the stem flats.

To separate plug from the stem, drive out the spirol pin (18) and unscrew stem (6), using the flats provided, by rotating in an anti-clockwise direction.

If there are no flats are on the stem, it can be gripped by wrapping a ½-inch (15mm) wide strip of emery cloth around the stem with the rough surface in contact with the stem and gripping this.

Apply thread lubricating compound to the thread on the stem (6) and screw stem into plug (3) using the flats on the stem and tighten until no play can be detected and torque tighten to the figure given in the Instruction Leaflet 'Tightening Torques for bonnet Studs and Stem Threads’ contained within this manual.

With the plug off seat, fit a braided ring of packing (16) taking care to ensure that the edges of the packing are not damaged when passing over the stem threads and flats.
