You could probably use "trieda" as well. We talk about "bands" (band 3,4 etc) over here when we talk about platova trieda, but personally I prefer studijna skupina.

Discussion
NB: In the event of applications exceeding the admission limit, living within
the catchment area does not guarantee a place at the academy.
There will be no priority for brothers or sisters of students at the academy,
but siblings in the same year group will be treated jointly. Children will then
be allocated to 1 of 10 bands. The academy will operate a waiting list for
unsuccessful applicants in each ability band.
Testing will be carried out by the academy in the autumn. It is not an
entrance test but is only used to allocate a child to a particular band.
This ensures that the academy is guaranteed to have a spread of
abilities in each year group.
