Dear colleages witht the Turkish/English language pair,

I watched quite a few episodes of the Magnificent Century and noticed one expression that was rendered in Russian subtitles as 'There is no death', used on a number of occasions. It was used as an opening to the conversation. I thought that perhaps it was a set greeting formula or something like that. Is that correct? And if so, how does it sound in Turkish exactly?

Well, maybe you can actually name the season & episode number (like season2episode5) - even the very minute when that phrase is actually spoen if possible; and we can literally locate that very expression and come with a rather more definitive answer - and explain its sub-text more descriptively?

determination vs courage to me, "no death until ..." implies determination, while "I will die but ..." implies courage.

Interesting. Strange as an opening to a conversation (and said in a netral tone). I get the meaning of it thogh. Interestingly, in Russian, if you are extremely determined to do something you can say: I will die but will see you / him / it (I guess the death is supposed to happen after the desired event).

My guess is that the expression might have been "no dying", not "no death"...

It underlines of the decisiveness of the person who said it to see the other one, either due to a love/affection, or a hate/to take revenge. It says "nothing can prevent/stop me from seeing you again. So, as you noted, we can take is as "no matter what happens, I'll see you again".

It is poetic indeed. I haven't seen it in another context. Always used in phrases expressing a very difficult situation to overcome. There are poems and lyrics with it.

It implies that "I will do whatever is necessary to see you again, you cannot escape from me"

Dear Zeki G and Elif Baykara, based on the Russian subtitles, that's how the conversation started: There is no death! (sounds very unusual, if taken literally :-)). But if not taken literally, very poetic. No death until I see you again - is that a set phrase? In what sitations is it normally (outside of the TV series) used?

I am not familiar with the series. Maybe it is a specific way of greeting which I am not familiar with.

In general, "ölüm yok" is used together with some condition, such as

"Seni tekrar görmeden bana ölüm yok" (There is no death until I see you again)

Depending on the context , this phrase maay indicate to various different situations, so we need context.

It may mean : ... olmadan bana/sana ölüm yok.
