MD(s) for schools, maybe?
"School medicine" in German has a completely different meaning. :O
Martina Pokupec (X) (asker) Apr 21, 2012:
yes paediatrics is a separate discipline here, treating children up to the age of 7, i.e. when they start primary school. The child is then supposed to transfer to the family GP for treatment of illnesses and similar; however, school children are also supposed to see their school doctor for scheduled full-body check-ups and vaccinations - they do this when they are healthy :)
Charles Davis Apr 21, 2012:
I don't think there's anything quite like this in the UK. From the sound of it, they are paediatricians for school-age children, but don't deal with babies and infants (a large proportion of the work of a paediatrician). On the other hand, paediatricians only treat children up to the age of about thirteen or fourteen. Is paediatrics a separate discipline in Croatia?
Martina Pokupec (X) (asker) Apr 21, 2012:
Hi Charles! In Croatia, there are MDs specialized in medicine for school children (primayz to secondary education), they conduct regular check.ups and vaccinations of school children and each is assigned to one or several schools in a neighborhood. They hold practice in Health Centres and not Schools. They might come to school to conduct check-ups and vaccinations; however they are not stationed in schools. Croatian schools do not have a member of staff as a doctor or nurse. They are different from GPs, where the whole family can go to treat medical conditions.
Charles Davis Apr 21, 2012:
@Martina Does "school medicine" mean medicine in schools (educational establishments)? Like the school doctor or nurse?

school medical officer/medical officers at schools (here)

... maybe.

Medical officers at schools
School medical officers should be recognised medical advisers appointed to undertake medical examinations of scholars and to advise the school authorities generally on matters of health and hygiene. The officer should ensure that medical examinations of all pupils are carried out as necessary including medical examinations on entrance and fitness for sport.

All children receive a medical examination during their first year in school. At this time, the School Medical Officer meets with the parent for the examination. The school then receives a record of those medical factors which are considered educationally
relevant.
