English term

John Kowalski's Military Service (Status) is in a good standing

Non-PRO English Other Military / Defense Military
Does this sentence mean anything?
Does it mean, as my colleague would like it to mean, that John Kowalski is a reservist, or exempted from military service?

Why am I asking? In Poland we still have conscription and employers are not willing to take on young people who are likely to be called up. The Polish expression we are translating comes from a CV and means that J.K. has either already served in the armed forces or is exempted from compulsory military service, there is just one expression covering both situations. My guess for the English translation is "Military status: reserve/inactive". Am I right?
Sorry if it is a little complicated.

Military Service : Exempt OR Completed

OK, you're explanatory note puts things in a completely new light.

I think you could use the construction shown above, but I would stress that you should show one or the other. If I was the prospective employer and was reading a CV of a prospective employee I would want to know whether he was one or the other. I'd suggest that you contact the CV's owner for clarification if possible.

JK has a good military service record

This is what it sounds like to me, but to be frank it does not read like wonderfully fluent English.

his status is in order

The sentence should have read:
"John Kowalski's Military Service (Status) is in good standing" (without the "a").

It means "all requirements are fulfilled, everything is in order".

neutral Libero_Lang_Lab : agree with the sentiment - basically all four answerers are agreed on this I think - but "status is in order" sounds stilted to me

JK has a clean military service record

I agree with Dan and though I don't particularly care for the word "clean" either, I suspect this is what they mean. In other words, he has no blemishes or negative mentions in his military service record. I suspect this is a U.S. context.

Luck to you!

in good standing

It would not be *in a good standing* but in good standing. JK is a military service member in good standing. The meaning is that he is serving honorably, his record of service is good.

I'm not sure I understand your question exactly concerning what your colleague *wants to say*. Maybe he/she wants to say that JK has properly registered for the military draft. But to help you, it would be best if you told us what country JK is a citizen of.

What is Selective Service registration?
In the US the term is to register for selective service.

Registration is a way our government keeps a list of names of men from which to draw in case of a national emergency requiring rapid expansion of our Armed Forces. By registering all young men, the Selective Service ensures that a future draft will be fair and equitable.
