maceration Explanation: The usual Finnish equivalent for 'maceration' seems to be 'maserointi'. 'Maceration' seems to mean 'separating bones by (bacterial)soaking', as it is described below, form url: http://www.wildlifeskulls.com/prep.htm "There are three common methods for meat removal from bone. One method is boiling to cook the meat from the bone. Boiling can cause damage if done too long and it does not take the fat (grease) out of the bone. Another method used is called maceration. Maceration is the soaking of bone in liquid to decompose the flesh with bacteria. The third common method is the use of dermestid beetles to eat the meat from the bone. The method used depends on the condition of the bone and how fragile it is." 'Maseeraus' may also mean 'injecting salted water into meat', as it is described in this excerpt from a NG posting. This may be some kind of Finnish meat factory slang (when they try to mask what they are actually doing) "Kinkkuihin lisätään vettä aivan kilotolkulla.
