Discussion

Germaine Jun 25, 2013:
Selon quelques sources, il semble qu'un jugement de divorce prononcé en France est d'abord délivré aux avocats des parties (jugement de divorce) puis certifié par l'autorité judiciaire pertinente (certificat de divorce). Voir, par exemple:
http://www.consulfrance-montreal.org/spip.php?article393
Je retiendrais donc "autorité judiciaire".
frentur Oct 15, 2010:
It is customary in formulars or decrees to prepare spaces to be filled in if these options are utilized. In your case because the husband pays the costs, fees etc. corresponding spaces are left blank.
Joan Berglund (asker) Oct 15, 2010:
It is France, and now that I think about it, since it is left blank, it could refer to a possible "à jour " that never occured. I will check and see if I can find the expanded "à jour " used in the same way in any court documents online. I don't think "l’aide juridictionnelle" is involved, the husband was ordered to pay costs (he was a very bad husband, apparently)
writeaway Oct 15, 2010:
am asking because A.J. could be Ajaccio. but that's just more guessing. really guessing.
writeaway Oct 15, 2010:
is it from France? if not, what country?
Joan Berglund (asker) Oct 15, 2010:
I don't think so, it appears to be a simple divorce granted right away.
writeaway Oct 15, 2010:
hmmm I suppose that le will be followed by a date and a will be followed by a place.
Could it be ajournée? or à jour ?? sometimes other languages aren't as consistent with caps as we have to be in En.
Joan Berglund (asker) Oct 15, 2010:
sorry, forgot to mention, yes the caps are theirs.
Joan Berglund (asker) Oct 15, 2010:
I don't know if it is the name of a place. All the cities associated with the parties of the divorce and the court are named elsewhere and do not begin with A.J. If it follows the format of the certified true copy it is A.J. [thing] on [date] to [person or place], but I am not sure since the part after "le" and "a" are blank.
writeaway Oct 15, 2010:
are the caps theirs? am wondering why A.J. is in caps. Is it the name of a place?
Joan Berglund (asker) Oct 15, 2010:
I have "grosse" provisionally as "execution copy" [could also be "first authentic copy"] and "expedition" as "certified copy" [also sometimes translated as "notarial copy]
writeaway Oct 15, 2010:
grosse how did you translate that? is it a name, a place or what?

archive/archivage/autorité judiciaire

a) archive/archivage
Suggestion based on the fact that it's the last item in the list, and is blank: the decree had (obviously) not been archived when it was issued, but the gaps may be filled in later.

l’aide juridictionnelle

French Legal Aid
The main system of legal aid in France is called l'aide juridictionnelle.

It is available to meet the direct costs of an avocat you may need to engage, as well as other related costs, such as assistance from a huissier de justice (bailiff) or expert witness.
