German term

Körperhaftigkeit

German to English Tech/Engineering Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting

Thanks in advance

Presence

With apologies to Jim Tucker, who deserves all the credit.
Example sentence:

Thus creating colors with uncommon "presence".

Peer comment(s):

agree Jim Tucker (X) : How can I disagree? "Uncommon" is good, or in advertising hype-talk maybe "exceptional." "Body" might also work, echoing the semantic area of the original.

No, no! Thank YOU!
agree Kim Metzger : Or maybe something with full-bodied, intense.

Thank you.
agree Ingeborg Gowans (X) : fits best here

Thank you.
agree Bernhard Sulzer : with 'exceptional presence/body', almost but not quite like 'prominent' or 'three-dimensional quality', although it goes in that direction. Just a few thoughts.

Thank you.
agree Stephen Reader : Oops, about to make own entry, redundant: Just "body", as a quality in non-scientific terms (cf. 'presence'), to suggest both or either of a) physical consistency b) intensity of colour (cf. 'luminosity' but that'd raise opaque/glaze issue)

Thank you. (and Jim Tucker!)

From the corrosion protection mechanisms of paint coatings, good adhesion to the underlying material is obviously highly desirable.

These bonding effects all rely on intimate contact between the underlying material and the coating, down to the scale of the molecular level.

neutral Jim Tucker (X) : Isn't the original passage explicitly about pigments? // "Producing colors of particular presence." (possibly "vibrancy")

How would you translate "so dass Farben von besonderer «Körperhaftigkeit» entstehen."? Yes, you're right. Bad work on my part.

retentiveness /retention

COLOR RETENTION
Iron oxide and non iron oxide pigments are equal in color retention. We have customers that have very good color retention after 7 years. Color retention is due to proper pigment implantation. The difference is iron oxide pigments will start changing in approximately six months. Brown to orange or mauve, black to blue etc.
