These are compounds that have a ring with 5 atoms, usually all carbon, but also with sulphur, oxygen, nitrogen etc are also possible ( these are heterocycles).
Benzene, for example, C6H6 has a six-membered ring.
Compounds with 5 rings (annulenes) are something else entirely.
