As I've stated below, for the reading/deduction, it's irrelevant when the wife appeared or will appear in the man's life. The point here is that the speaker's deduction impressed P.F., the skeptic, by matching the wife's birthday. But it doesn't tell us whether P.F. was impressed at the time of the reading (i.e. he knew wife & birthday) or subsequently (when he met his wife).
