German term

in die Tiefen des Ich

Karin Monteiro-Zwahlen (asker) Mar 25, 2013:
Many thanks to all of you for your helpful answers!
David Friemann, MA Mar 25, 2013:
plumbing the depths is not journeying into the depths, right? I prefer Peter's edited idea of a journey into the depths of the inner self...

a journey into the depths of the inner soul

inner soul sounds better to me (as does journey):

Here's one way of doing the whole sentence:

"Plumbing the depths of one's soul, a journey to magic places in the Mediterranean transforms into a journey into the labyrinth of time and space."
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : I think "the soul" or "the self" would be better here. Of course it also means ego in psychology, but that may not be appropriate here.

That's how I see it, too.
neutral Lancashireman : Sorry to see you stick with 'plumbing' for your revised version, Michael. Plumbing the depths has negative connotations to my ears.

Point taken. But it goes both ways, IMO.
