German term

Gewürzaroma

German to English Other Food & Drink Food product ingredients
This term is part of a list of ingredients on the packaging of a German convenience food product. I'm in two minds as to whether this is "spice flavour" or "spice flavouring".

Specifically, the line it appears on is as follows:

Zitronenaroma, Gewürz, Gewürzaroma.
"lemon flavour, spice(s), spice flavour(ing)"

Can someone advise further?

Thanks,

Will

Susanna MacKenzie Apr 15, 2011:
Thank you, Orla. Thank you for the reference - this confirms what I was thinking.
I would like to withdraw my answer, since it no longer corresponds. "seasoning flavouring" would sound awful.
I will add a note.

Thats what I think too - according to the free dictionary (via collins):
Flavouring: (Cookery) a substance used to impart a particular flavour to food (rum flavouring)

flavour vs flavouring Just out of curiosity: In your opinion, what is the difference between flavour and flavouring?
Here are my thoughts:
flavour = the taste of a food
flavouring = the substance that gives the food its flavour
I am curious about your feedback.

Yes, I would agree.

should it also be lemon flavouring then?

spice flavouring

I think this is, as you suggest, spice flavouring in contrast to the actual spices themselves.
See e.g. "Water, Spirit Vinegar, Mustard Seeds (19%), Salt, Sugar, Spice Flavouring, Citric Acid, Colour - Riboflavin, Thickener - Xanthan Gum" http://www.heinz.co.uk/ourfood/sauces/bread-spreads/english-...

Thanks, Lynda. I appreciate your help.

agree Heidi Smith : I would spell it "flavoring" in American English.

spice flavouring

'Spice flavouring' is probably best for a list of ingredients. The 'Gewürzaroma' could be a proprietary product to enhance the 'Gewürz' (spices) preceding it.
