Discussion

Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 29, 2020:
NICE GUY! There's always room for improvement.
Steffen Walter Jan 29, 2020:
No, thanks ... ... I'll leave it to you to upgrade your own suggestion ;-)
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 29, 2020:
Upgrade! Now that will bring them running! Mind if I integrate it in my suggestion? Or do you want to suggest it yourself?

Energetische Sanierung ... ... could also be translated as "energy efficiency upgrade (of buildings)". See, for instance, http://www.lse.ac.uk/GranthamInstitute/publication/the-effec...

I agree with Björn that "energetic" is a prime example of Denglish and should thus be avoided like the plague, as it were. In the title/motto above, how about putting "Energy efficiency upgrades - Getting started"?
Harris Morgan Jan 29, 2020:
Good points, Björn My suggestion of "improvements" was intended as a catch-all for this reason. Agree with Ramey that the target audience are likely to already know this is in an energy efficiency context.
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 29, 2020:
Hi Björn Yes, My thoughts, too. Retrofit would be to 'specific' for the uninitiated.
Björn Vrooman Jan 29, 2020:
Please do not use energetic It's basically Denglish and mostly used on German websites. This isn't about pole dancing. I asked the following question a long time ago:
https://www.proz.com/kudoz/english/environment-ecology/56366...

Also refurbishment is not the same as renovation or retrofit:
https://www.designingbuildings.co.uk/wiki/Renovation_v_refur...

In most cases, they're talking about a deep energy retrofit:

Best wishes
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 29, 2020:
Dear Seehand I've added a note. I would then say "Launching renewable energy renovations"
Energetic as a qualifier could also mean you go at it with a vengeance :-)
seehand Jan 29, 2020:
Dear Ramey, you have a point here but nevertheless I'd stick wie the "energetic" part - have a lovely day ...
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 29, 2020:
Hey there Seehand, Long time no see! I though of that, too, but assume that since the people came in the first place, they know what it's about so it's not necessary.
seehand Jan 29, 2020:
excuse me I meant renovation or modernisation
seehand Jan 29, 2020:
First steps to energetic refurbishment - I wonder whether it would be better to mention the "energetic" part ...

Building Improvements for Beginners

This appears to be the name of a feature at the trade show, where those interested in starting building improvement/renovation projects can receive advice from exhibitors, along with a "Starterhilfe-Folder". See reference for more details (p. 8).

Getting started with a home upgrade

or 'Getting started with home improvements'; 'Upgrading homes: first steps'. I like 'upgrade' as it is often used in the context of increasing energy efficiency which is what this trade show is about.

I don't think there's any focus on novice customers and "launch" is too specific for our purposes. Also, the English equivalent would probably be less formal than the German in this context.
