German term

Formelektrode

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering

Discussion

Yuu Andou (asker) Apr 27, 2018:
I guess... "die electrode"?
philgoddard Apr 26, 2018:
This gives "shaped electrode" and "field-forming electrode", both of which may be wrong:

neutral philgoddard : Maybe, but the Wikipedia article links to Referenzelektrode/Bezugselektrode.

tool

"A positively charged workpiece (the anode) takes the form of the negatively charged tool (the cathode) as the metal is dissolved. The result is a high quality, burr-free part."

http://rm.holdings/PEM/

In the PEM process, a cathode (tool) is advanced into an anode (workpiece). The metal removal current is pulsed while in close proximity (typically 10—20 µm gap), and then retracted.

Peer comment(s):

agree Annika Hogekamp : Maybe "tool-electrode" would be more precise. - See wikipedia article on "Electrical Discharge Machining" (EDM)

thanks, Annika!
agree Marcus Malabad : This is the answer. Simply looking up precision electrochemical machining (the context here) will reveal the answer

That's just what I did - thanks much, Marcus :)

"Master" might be closer to what was written. Or electrode shaped into the form being cut.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_discharge_machini...
In sinker EDM, a graphite, copper tungsten, or pure copper electrode is machined into the desired (negative) shape and fed into the workpiece on the end of a vertical ram... For the creation of dies for producing jewelry and badges, or blanking and piercing (through use of a pancake die) by the coinage (stamping) process, the positive master may be made from sterling silver, since (with appropriate machine settings) the master is significantly eroded and is used only once.
