German term

saure Valenzen

German to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
From a funding application for work on a heart-lung machine: talking about perfusion:

"Hinweise für eine nicht optimale Perfusion ... ergeben sich aus nicht adäquaten Perfusionsdrücken, VEränderungen des Gefäßwiderstands, aus einem Abfall der venösen Sauerstoffsättigung und einem Anstieg saurer Valenzen im Blut als Hinweis für eine globale oder regionale Minderdurchblutung"

Acid valency??

TIA!

decrease in pH

if acidity increases, pH deceases. that happens due to increased CO2 as a result of decreased perfusion.
Peer comment(s):

neutral MMUlr : or more closely to the original: increase in acid excretion / production / concentration ... !?//see my separate answer :-)

if the asker wants to stay closer to the original, then 'acidemia'[=the state of low blood pH ] would be correct, which is blood acidity. But please distinguish it from the related term, i.e. acidosis.
agree Jumplanguage : MMUlr is right: increase in acid concentration would be better.

which is 'acidemia' in short.

acid(ic) substances

After some more research on this - in today's scientific texts - slightly unusual term "saureValenzen", I found that in the context of metabolism and acid-base balance this is most commonly:

--> acidic substances

First, when Googling, you will find mostly "alternative" medical texts using this term:
http://www.alternativemedizin.de/sbhaushaltmensch.htm

(corresponding English text: http://asktheherbalist.info/index.php/Q-A/Acid-and-Alkaline-... )

But here a different text environment from a chemical department / Univ. Wisconsin:
http://scifun.chem.wisc.edu/CHEMWEEK/BioBuff/BioBuffers.html

(find: acidic substances)

Reason for this separate answer:
I would not follow the other suggestion(s), such as decrease in pH or acidemia, since I consider them as already interpretation, not translation of the original text.

And: If I would translate " ... decrease in venous oxygen saturation", then there should follow "... increase in (something)", to properly reflect the German sentence.
