based on this explanation (but I am not sure if "stumpf" implies "no" or rather "little or no"

Es mag sein, daß diese Reflexe z. B. bei älteren Menschen nicht so ausgeprägt sind und deshalb der Makulabereich als "stumpf" bezeichnet worden ist.
Das bedeutet bei guter Sehfunktion aber keine Erkrankung.
