German term or phrase: Nahtufer
My client produces furniture and is talking about a velours fabric and the different effects that are created by the pile and how the fabric is placed on the furniture.

The text in question is:

I asked the client to explain and they replied with:

Now, I do sew, and am familiar with the term "stitch in ditch" but I'm not sure if it applies to the "Ufer" they are talking about here. Does anyone know, please?

Thanks in advance,

Joanne

English translation:side of the seam
Explanation:
"In the case of seams that run vertically, the fabric colour on one side of the seam may appear lighter than on the other."
I.e.: the fabric to left of the seam may appear brighter than the fabric to the right, or vice versa. Because there is a "pile" on the fabric, the light/shadow will fall in different ways, and this is what creates the illusion of differing brightness.

seam margin

Explanation:
