Thank you for the suggestions. I may have to close this question without reaching a definite conclusion. The explanation (clarification of the relationship between ράδιο and οπή) may be in the earlier pages, which I have not seen.

Yes, Socratis is probably right. It's probably 'radio', though the exact meaning is unclear (at/near the radio which is near the lub. oil hole??).

As I understand it, it was catastrophic to the extent that the crankshaft of the ship's main engine was rendered useless. They are talking about mechanical defects. Nothing radioactive here. I'm afraid neither 'radio' nor 'radium' makes any sense to me here.

if it was a company, it would be starting with a capital P (Pάδιο). It talks about a thermic action/procedure (e.g. recharging) done on something, which had catasrophic consequences. ράδιο only has two meanings in Greek, either radium or radio (as in FM/AM) and because of the catastrophy part of it, I thought it would be radium. If this doesn't make sence at all (in context with the rest of the text not displayed here), then maybe it talks about a radio button???
