James (Jim) Davis Dec 11, 2015:
You need to be careful with "equivalents" To start with a professor in England is much higher ranking in the university hierarchy than in the US. Then consider that when I taught English in Italy all my lovely pupils (school children) called me "Prof". Minefield/Can of worms pick your methaphor.
James (Jim) Davis Dec 11, 2015:
Put them in italics I have always done this with foreign honorifics. Others say this is very wrong. Some translate with things like professor engineer (which I feel looks awkard). Others say the only way is with the available English honorifics like "Mr." which loose a lot in translation.
