Italian term

mista (see context)

Italian to English Social Sciences Sports / Fitness / Recreation
This is for the description of a sports "fair play" award winner who is a swimmer:

PIAZZAMENTI IN CARRIERA

Eurojunior 03 2° - 100 st.libero, 4x100 mista; 5° - 50 st.libero
Europei 04 4° - 200 st.libero, 4x100 mista; 5° - 4x100 st.libero; 6° - 100 st.libero
Olimpiadi 04 2° - 200 st.libero; 10° - 100 st.libero
Mondiali 05 2° - 200 st.libero; 5° - 4x100 mista

etc., up until 2007.

I have PIAZZAMENTI IN CARRIERA as CAREER PLACEMENTS, and "st.libero" as "freestyle".

I did a little research on competitive swimming styles, and the only term I can come up with for "mista" is "individual medley". Can anyone confirm that (or correct it) for me?

Thanks!

Okay, it has to be medley relay. According to the following site

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_World_Aquatics_Championshi...

the events are listed as follows:

Individual Medley
Women's 200 m Katie Hoff...

Medley Relay
Women's 4x100 m Sophie Edington...

so it does seem the "x" is the distinguisher. If it took me this long to find every term I would never finish a translation! Yikes!

Question for texjax (or indeed anyone knowledgeable) How do I know it's individual and not relay? (I'm not a competitive swimming expert - clearly.) At first I thought it was if the meters were a single figure it was individual (e.g. 200 st.libero) and if the meters were multiplied it was relay (e.g. 4x100 mista). Any light to shed on this? Thanks!!

Correction: CAREER PLACINGS, which is actually what I wrote in my translation but not here...

abbreviato, infatti, è IM
