Longia is lunge in English. It is a kind of very long rein and you can let the horse jump etc. without mounting it.

agree Laurel Porter (X) : yes - from the brief research I just did, it seems it's usually called a "lunge line", sometimes "lunge rein", and the practice itself is called lunging or the lunge.
