バツ悪かった

Non-PRO Japanese to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Dear ProZ members,

I was wondering if I'm understanding correctly the meaning of バツ悪かった in the following sentence.

Three boys in a cartoon meet a kind siren and become their friends. Some people from their town finds out this and decide to use the siren to attract tourists. However, elder people believe that sirens are ferocius man-eating monsters and are scared by them.
The grandfather of one of the boys makes a great fuss saying the town should have nothing to do with sirens. In order to get out from the situation, the three boys try to convince the others that no real siren exists and that it was just a costume made my them.

After that, when the boys are alone, one of them says:

お前のじいちゃんにはバツ悪かった ウソつくの気まずい
(I was embarassed with your grandpa. Lying makes me feel uneasy.)

Is my take on バツ悪かった correct or not?

Thank you!

I felt awkward (in front of your grandpa)

He felt awkward, embarrassed, and ashamed and he would rather be elsewhere than being in front of the grandpa.
