Mining & Minerals / Gems / geology
Portuguese term or phrase: apiesado
the word "apiesado" appeared in a technical mining translation
which i am doing into english. The best i can find is that this word in portuguese ie.apiesado was adapted from the name of person Mr/Mrs. M.Palomar Lapiesa, but cannot find more info about this person or the significance/meaning of this word in th field of mining. I believe it has something to do with describing the layered scales that limestone is sometimes found in its natural state, more or less like a pile of thick plates, one on top of the other ?

Explanation:
to be honest, I've never seen this word in Portuguese, but it somehow reminds me of English words like "rough".

I've suggested "layered". It is possible that it could fit your context.
