This is from an article about the revolt in Egypt. Here's the context:

В Египте, кстати, исламские ортодоксы отделяют себя от радикалов-исламистов, исполь-зующих догмы Корана в политических целях, в т.ч. и в борьбе с властью, и это – одна из причин, почему на глазах «зеленеющий» Египет все-таки оставался светским государст-вом, а партия «Братья-мусульмане» запрещена. Этих ортодоксов, по существу задушивших исламский взрыв на старте 2011 г., оппозиционные светскому режиму группы назовут потом «предателями» и примут решение действовать самостоятельно, оставив «догматиков» ислама в покое. Но и исламисты не добились власти. Как ничего не получилось и у квартета светских оппозиционных партий, ***слишком пригревшихся у власти,*** но не оказавшихся способными взять её в свои руки.

I'm not sure what the author is trying to convey. Maybe something like, "got too close to te government"?
