Danya is right, the lexical meaning here is most probably irrelevant (apart from the vague sports reference).

@Sarah as your context does not seem to be demanding in terms of conveying the history of the expression, I think you can go with any punny line referring to sports, depending on what's inside the article. Sporting The Sports Gear, etc.
