Spanish term

cialitos

Spanish to English Science Geology soil types
This is a companion question to "catalina."

In an article about a mountain town in Puerto Rico, I have this sentence:

Sus suelos --conocidos como catalina y cialitos-- se denominan suelos de altura.

I gather that these two types of soil might be clayey. Are these typical highland soils? Are the terms used in English? Help!

Thanks to everyone. slothm, Enrique--great links! Enrique, you made me waste an hour or more. Google Earth is more addictive than chocolate. Gorgeous photo. Sandra, good point about the name. I live on the island too, but I don't know anything about soils! trnet, come back and visit! It's paradise, indeed.
Enrique Espinosa Feb 8, 2008:
You're right Jane. The terms certainly refer to a soil type, but the name comes from a location maybe a little far away of Las Marias. I saw this link for Río Cialitos: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/4376611. Saludos

The town in question is Las Marías. It's a (relatively) long way from there to Ciales! The list of rivers and creeks in Las Marías doesn't include Cialitos. I'm pretty sure both of these terms refer to soil types, not geographical features or local names.
Enrique Espinosa Feb 8, 2008:
Cialitos is the name of a river. I guess, in the municipality of Ciales, Puerto Rico. The name Cialitos is a proper name and describes a special sort of soil; most probably clay soil.

The names of the types of soil in the highlands. If it was the name of a place it would be capitalized.
