Swedish term (edited): Smittskyddsläkare

County Medical Officer

Thank you very much for helping out, Sweede_sfbay! I apologise for not giving any reply earlier but when I first asked this question about smittskyddsläkare as "WritingBasia", I did not realise you needed to register in order to give feedback on your questiions.

Since I asked the question I have noticed that the term "County medical officer" seems to be used for Smittskyddsläkare in leaflets and on web pages. The special thing about Smittskyddsläkare in Sweden is that they are responsible for managing and coordinating eg infectious diseace prevention in a region.
Example sentence:

According to the Communicable Disease Act all patients with newly diagnosed active TB are to be reported by the consulting physician to the county medical officer and to the SIIDC.

The main responsibility for communicable disease prevention in Sweden has been placed at the regional level, and the operational responsibility lies with the County Medical Officers.
