you will see that 'chicken' is being used here with the meaning of 'civciv'; 'chicken' can have this meaning in English.

The word 'chicken' in English is flexible in its meaning. As far as I know, in British English, we refer to the small yellow creature that hatches from a poultry egg as either a 'chick' or 'chicken', and to me 'chicken' comes more naturally. While 'chick' only has this meaning, 'chicken' is also used to refer to the meat and sometimes also the adult of the species.

civciv = a baby chicken = a chick :-)

According to Oxford Dictionary, "chicken" is a large bird that is often kept for its eggs or meat

"The baby chicken that hatched ...".

I gave an incomplete translation of that last sentence. It should be:
"The chicken that hatched from an egg that a family in Adana threw into the rubbish because it had gone off has now become a rooster."

The word 'diye' is frequently encountered in colloquial spoken Turkish. You are right that it derives from 'demek' and literally means 'saying'. It is often used with any verb that can be used to report speech simply to show that the preceding words were those spoken, as in the title of the following web page:

"Sevgilim yok diye yakınan güzel kız."
Here the beautifiul girl is moaning or complaining and syas "I have no lover", which would translate most naturally into reported speech in English: "The girl who moans that she has no lover."


Apart from that, and by extension, it can be used to describe the purpose of an action, almost in the sense of this is what the performer of that cation would have said in justification if asked, as in the following news headline:
