Dear Tim, here what mindfs is the tradional social life varying from country to country. It is normal in Turkish family life, even it results in even more affection by all family members to so-speaking youngters.

I can believe that an adult might address their parents in this manner, but I find it hard to believe that a small boy, as seen in the cartoon, would address his mother as 'kız'.

In colloquial, a son may address his mom as "kız" (gal) or a daughter may call her father "len" (lad, kiddy) [sometimes I call my 80- year old father "len"] depending on the sincerity of their relationship. Sometimes insults or swear words may be used to express love. For instance, "salak" (idiot) as love expression or "hayvan" (animal) for exaggeration.

When we think in our culture/Turkish, they do not.
But thinking in English, in another culture/world, that is possible.

In the real world a child would never address its mother as 'kız'.
