Hello everyone,

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with a question about the Mac version of WordFast Pro (I'm using 2.4.1, the latest version): Apart from the missing option of using MS Word dictionaries (I have already given up on that) I cannot find a way to add terms to my personal Hunspell dictionary. I only get the option to either "Ignore" or "Change" the term, but there is no "Add" option, which renders the spellchecking function pretty much unusable.

Has anyone gotten this to work? And if not: Does anybody know whether there are plans to release a Mac version with a working spellchecker?

Thanks,
Boris

Hunspell dictionaries are plain text files, thus you can simply modify them with any good text editor. Find their location in your system (the files with the .dic file name extension, located somewhere in the depths of the WFP installation directory, I don’t know, where it is on Mac).

You can read a bit more about the file format here: http://lingucomponent.openoffice.org/dictionary.html (it’s about MySpell, the predecessor of Hunspell, but the information is still valid), so if you understand it, you can add words with the information about inflections at once. Otherwise, you can add word forms one-by-one.

That's not what I meant Mar 1, 2011

Thanks esperantisto, but that's not my problem. I know how to add entries via a text editor, but I'd like to add them "on the fly" via the WordFast Spellchecker. In the Windows version, whenever the engine finds a term it does not know it lets me choose whether to change, ignore or *add* the term to the dictionary. The mac version only allows me to "change" or "ignore" it, which is, depending on the text, extremely inefficient.

same problem Apr 7, 2011

I have a Mac and I have the same problem. I already expressed my disappointment in one of my previous posts but still ... no solution I am afraid. I deal with very technical documents and I'd say 50% of the words are showed as wrong by the spell checker. I can change them or edit them, forget the adding to dictionary. It is very time consuming. So I am tracking this particular topic hoping that a solution can be found, one day.
thank you
M

Can't find the file on Mac Jul 11, 2011

Just looking for this .dic file and can't seem to find it on my Mac (checked .wfworkspace/hunspell)

Anyone else able to locate and edit this file?

Same problem on PC with version 3.1 Aug 29, 2012

I have the same problem Boris comments on: I used to be able to "add term" while spellchecking, but since I downloaded the last version the words do not stay in the dictionary. I checked they are in the same spot \wfworkspace\hunspell
Anyone ever solved this issue in Mac?
Looking through the WF site I couln't find much support for this.
And it is a big drawback!

-----SOLVED MY PROBLEM:
In case it helps anyone, in the route .wf_workspace\hunspell (under your personal folder in Documents and settings - -for PC), I had three different dictionaries in other folders, so I chose the one with the most terms, erased the rest, and left the good one under hunspell (not includen in another folder) and now it is working again.

Maybe the clue to find the spot in MAC is to use ".wf_workspace" spelled this way.

Location of the hunspell folder on Mac Mar 8, 2015

Just in case this helps Mac users out there.

Enable viewing hidden folders and files (here's how: http://ianlunn.co.uk/articles/quickly-showhide-hidden-files-mac-os-x-mavericks/) and you will find the dictionary here:

Macintosh HD ▸ Users ▸ [your_username] ▸ .wf_workspace ▸ hunspell ▸
