Un sultano trova uno strano insetto. Non capisce a quale specie appartenga, dunque dichiara che a chi saprà dirglielo darà la propria figlia in sposa. Purtroppo a indovinarlo è un genio malvagio, ma il sultano deve mantenere la parola data, perciò la principessa lascia il palazzo. Per il viaggio però il padre le dà un cavallo magico di nome Kamer-Taj, che porta la ragazza in salvo su un’isola lontana, di cui lei sposa il principe. Il marito è costretto a partire per la guerra e il genio, scoperto l’accaduto, inganna la coppia e costringe la principessa all’esilio, con i due figli nati nel frattempo. Poi tenta di assalirla, però di nuovo la fanciulla chiama in aiuto Kamer-Taj, che la trasporta nel proprio palazzo incantato. Qui il destriero muore, ma ormai la principessa e i suoi bambini sono in salvo. Intanto il principe torna dalla guerra, apprende quanto è successo e parte in cerca della moglie. Vaga a lungo e giunge al palazzo magico ridotto a uno straccione. Ciononostante viene riconosciuto e la famiglia si ricongiunge. Sulla strada del ritorno incontrano il genio in agguato, che finalmente il principe uccide.

A sultan finds a strange insect. He doesn’t know which species it belongs to, so he declares that whoever will be able to tell him this information will be able to marry his daughter. Unfortunately, this is an evil genie, but the sultan has to maintain his promise and the princess leaves the palace.
For the journey the sultan provides her with a magic horse called Kamer-Taj, who rescues the girl and takes her to a far-away island. She then marries the prince of the island. When the prince has to go to war, the genie, who finds out what has happened, tricks the couple and forces the princess into exile, along with her two children. Then he tries to assault her, but the princess calls for Kamer-Taj, who takes her to an enchanted palace. The horse dies, but the princess and her children are out of danger now. In the meantime, the prince has returned from the war, is informed about what has happened and he goes in search of his wife. After a long journey he arrives in rags at the enchanted palace. Despite his scruffy appearance, his family recognises him and they are reunited. On their way home they meet the genie who is lying in ambush and the prince finally kills him.

Il redattore scatta in piedi, indica a un collega di afferrare subito un altro telefono. La voce ripete: Ha capito bene? Siamo delle Brigate Rosse. C’è una busta da ritirare alla fine del Traforo, prima di via Nazionale…

3. La Santa Sede. Stavolta tocca a Poletti portare la terribile notizia al Papa, che ha appena terminato di cenare ma è ancora a tavola con don Macchi.
Il processo è terminato. Le brigate rosse hanno condannato a morte l’onorevole Moro – annuncia, trattenendo a stento la commozione.
Assassini! – si lascia sfuggire pallido don Macchi.
Quanto al Papa, è impietrito. Seppure messa nel conto, la comunicazione ufficiale dei sequestratori rende più netti i contorni del dramma.
Dobbiamo fare qualcosa, dobbiamo fare qualcosa subito… dice poi Montini a più riprese. E chiede notizie di monsignor Curioni: vuole sapere a che punto sia la sua iniziativa, confida molto nella sua riuscita…
Poletti gli conferma che la trattativa sta andando avanti, si sta aspettando solo che l’intermediario dia la prova di essere davvero in contatto con i sequestratori. Poi aggiunge che ci sono anche altre iniziative, e da più parti. Il rettore dell’Università Cattolica, ad esempio, si sta muovendo per un appello di Amnesty International e chiede l’appoggio del Vaticano.
Il Papa dà immediatamente il suo beneplacito. E chiede di accertare quale effettiva contropartita sia richiesta dai brigatisti, in modo da poterla reperire attraverso elargizioni di benefattori danarosi. Insomma, il Papa insiste perché non si trascuri nessuna strada – perché si faccia qualcosa e la si faccia presto… prima che la sentenza venga eseguita.

3. The Holy See. This time it’s Poletti who has to give the terrible news to the Pope, who has just finished eating his supper but is still seated at the table with Don Macchi.
The trial is over. The Red Brigades have sentenced the Honourable Moro to death – he announces, looking visibly saddened.
Murderers! – exclaims Don Macchi, his face looking pale.
The Pope looks shocked. Even though predictable, the kidnappers’ official communication confirms the seriousness of the situation.
We must do something, we must do something immediately… Montini repeats. He asks about Monsignor Curioni: he wants to know how his plan is developing, he trusts he will be able to carry it out...
Poletti tells him that negotiations are underway. He is just waiting for the mediator to confirm and prove that he really is in contact with the kidnappers. Then he adds that other avenues are also being explored, by various people. The rector of the Catholic University, for example, is preparing to make an appeal to Amnesty International and has requested the support of the Vatican.
The Pope immediately gives his consent. And he wants to know what the Red Brigades actually want in return, so that he can try to raise money by requesting donations from wealthy benefactors. In other words, the Pope wants to be sure that nothing is left to chance – so that we can do something and fast... before the sentence is carried out.

Un branco di gnu sta galoppando nella savana, visto dall’alto. È il Kenya che si dispiega ai nostri occhi attraverso immagini di repertorio mescolate sapientemente ad immagini amatoriali. Vediamo elefanti, leoni, zebre, giraffe, l’immensità dell’orizzonte della savana che sembra non avere mai fine. L’Oceano indiano, la barriera corallina, laghi, fiumi, villaggi, e tanti bambini che corrono, giocano, salutano guardando in macchina. Sono immagini che raccontano una terra e un popolo meravigliosi, che si concludono su una panoramica che esplora la pianura deserta e sconfinata della savana.
SC.2. EST. BUSTO ARSIZIO - CAMPANILE DI UNA CHIESA - GIORNO
La panoramica sulla savana africana continua sui tetti di Busto Arsizio andandosi a fermare su un palazzetto d’epoca nel centro storico. Sentiamo delle voci fuori campo.
LORENZO
Secondo me con un milione e mezzo ce lo portiamo a casa.
SANDRO
Mi sembra fin troppo per un immobile che ci rimarrà sul groppone invenduto per chissà quanto tempo.
LORENZO e SANDRO, amici e soci di un’agenzia immobiliare, stanno osservando dalla cima di un campanile l’immobile in questione. Lorenzo ha in mano un binocolo per vedere meglio.
LORENZO
L’importante è che facciamo l’offerta per primi. Non lo sa ancora nessuno che hanno deciso di vendere.
SANDRO
È pure messo male, c’ha bisogno di un restyling completo. Lì partono almeno due milioni senza batter ciglio.
LORENZO
Problemi di chi acquisterà da noi. Intanto noi ci accaparriamo l’ultimo palazzetto cielo terra in vendita nel centro di Busto. Un immobile di grande prestigio.
SANDRO
Di questi tempi non si vende neanche una cuccia per cani in periferia e tu vuoi comprare un palazzetto nel centro storico. Mi sembri matto. Senti io scendo che s’è fatta quasi l’ora.
LORENZO
L’ora di che? Dove vai adesso, ci stai o no, allora?
Sandro imbocca le scale che portano di sotto e andandosene risponde all’amico.
SANDRO
Ma sì, facciamo come vuoi tu, testone. Vieni via, dai.
Lorenzo rimane ancora lì ad accarezzare con lo sguardo il suo futuro acquisto, sorride e gli parla, tra se e sé.
LORENZO
Ormai sei mio...
Dalla tromba delle scale arriva la voce di Sandro sempre più lontana.
SANDRO (off)
Muoviti!
All’improvviso un gigantesco rintocco di campane fa sobbalzare Lorenzo, che tenendosi la testa tra le mani e tremando ad ogni rintocco si precipita giù per le scale con una smorfia di dolore dipinta sul volto.
SC.3. EST. PIAZZA DEL PAESE - GIORNO
I rintocchi di mezzogiorno accompagnano l’uscita di Lorenzo dal campanile, dove Sandro lo sta aspettando già in salvo e con aria furbetta.
SANDRO
Non starmi a sentire mai tu, mi raccomando.
Lorenzo barcolla, invoca la Madonna, si appoggia al muro per riprendersi. Sandro lo prende delicatamente sottobraccio e lo pilota verso l’altro lato della bella piazza, dove spicca l’insegna della loro agenzia immobiliare 'BELLI

From above, we see a herd of wildebeest galloping through the savannah. Kenya stretches out before our eyes with library footage smoothly combined with amateur footage. We see elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, the immense horizon of the savannah which appears to be infinite. The Indian Ocean, the Coral Reef, lakes, rivers, villages and hundreds of children running around, playing as they greet the camera. They are images which tell the story of a wonderful country and of its people, and which end with a panoramic shot that explores the deserted and infinite plains of the savannah.
SC.2. EXT. BUSTO ARSIZIO – CHURCH BELL TOWER - DAY
The panoramic shot of the African savannah continues over the roofs of Busto Arsizio then stops on an old building in the historic centre. We hear voices off screen
LORENZO
I think it could be ours
with one and a half million.
SANDRO
That's way too much for a building which we won't be able to sell for goodness knows how long.
LORENZO and SANDRO, friends and partners of an estate agency, are looking down at the building in question from the top of a bell tower. Lorenzo is holding a pair of binoculars, to help him get a better look.
LORENZO
It's important that we're the first to make an offer. No one knows they've decided to sell yet.
SANDRO
It's in a bad state, it's needs
to be completely restyled. That'd be two million to start with.
LORENZO
Those who will buy it from us will have that problem. In the meantime, we'll buy the last multi-story building left in the centre of Busto. A very prestigious property.
SANDRO
In these times, it's impossible to sell a dog's kennel in the suburbs and you want to buy a building in the historical centre. You're out of your mind. I'm going, it's almost time...
LORENZO
Time for what? Where are you going, are you in on this deal or not?
Sandro starts walking down the stairs which lead down as he replies to his friend.
SANDRO
Oh all right then. As you wish, pig-head. Let's go, come on.
Lorenzo stays there caressing his future purchase with his gaze. He smiles and says to himself:

From the bottom of the stairs we hear Sandro's distant voice.
SANDRO (off)

Suddenly, the loud sound of the bells startles Lorenzo. As he covers his ears with his hands to the sound of each toll, he hurries down the stairs with a pained expression.
SC.3. EXT. TOWN SQUARE - DAY
As the bell tolls midday, the sound accompanies Lorenzo as he leaves the bell tower, where he finds Sandro who is waiting for him and has a cunning air about him.
SANDRO
Go ahead and take no notice of what I say.
Lorenzo sways, prays to the Madonna, and leans up against a wall while he regains his composure. Sandro gently takes him under the arm and leads him to the other side of the square, where the sign of their agency hangs 'BELLI
