I. Metroradion menestystarinan lähtökohdat

Irlantilainen Communicorp osti Metroradio Finland Oy:n vuonna 2005. Yhtiö oli erittäin tappiollinen ja liikevaihto oli laskussa. Metroradion maine oli huono ja työntekijät hakeutuivat pois yhtiöstä. Yhtiö ei olisi selviytynyt ilman emoyhtiön tukea.

Uusi omistaja halusi antaa Metroradiolle vielä yhden mahdollisuuden: Tehtävänä Metroradion kääntäminen kannattavaksi. Omistaja halusi yhtiön vetäjäksi ”Revenue Guyn”, jolla tuli olla vahvat näytöt liiketoiminnan kehittämisestä sekä johtamisesta.

Sain kutsun yhtiön toimitusjohtajaksi loppuvuodesta 2006. Tartuin haasteeseen, koska näin Metroradion neljässä radioasemassa, SuomiPOPissa, GrooveFM:ssä, Classic radiossa sekä MetroFM:ssä, merkittävän kasvupotentiaalin. Uskoin, että tekemällä oikeita asioita, voi saada paljon enemmän irti ihmisistä ja markkinasta.

II. Metroradion menestystarinan elementit

Visioni oli rakentaa Metroradio Finlandista yksi Suomen kannattavimmista ja halutuimmista radio- brändeistä kuluvan toimilupakauden 2012 loppuun mennessä.

Rakensimme projektille strategian, jonka keskeiset elementit olivat 1) myynnin kasvattaminen, 2) imagon parantaminen ja maineenhallinta, 3) tuotteen haluttavuuden parantaminen ja kannattava liiketoiminta.

III. Metroradion menestystarinan tulokset

Olemme toteuttaneet kolme keskeistä strategian kohtaa ja Metroradio on erinomaisessa kunnossa: Metroradio Finlandin radioasemien imago ja haluttavuus on noussut halutuimpien radiobrändien joukkoon. Liikevaihto on yli nelinkertaistunut ja raskaasti tappiollinen liiketoiminta on saatu nostettua kaikilla mittareilla mitattuna erittäin kannattavaksi. Yrityksen luottoluokitus on samalla noussut AAA-tasolle.

From a Falling Business to a Success

1. The Beginning of Metroradio's Success

An Irish Communications Corporation purchased Metroradio Finland Oy in 2005. The Company was a sinking ship and very unprofitable. Due to Metroradio's bad reputation, even the employees were jumping ship. At that time the company was not going to make it without the support of its parent company.
Metroradio’s new owner was willing to give the company one more chance to succeed. It had to be made profitable. The owner wanted a person to lead the company who had previous success making a company profitable.
I was invited to be the CEO of Metroradio Finland at the end of 2006. I was up for the challenge because I saw the growth potential for this four-station radio chain: SuomiPop, GrooveFM, Classic Radio and Metro FM. I believed that Metroradio would be successful with some important chan

II. The Businessplan and its Execution

My vision was to make Metroradio Finland one of the most successful and listened to radio brand in Finland by the end of 2012. The new strategy would be comprised of 1) sales increase 2) image building of the brand and 3) increasing the number of listeners through enhancing the programming.

III. The End Result

We have now reached these important goals and Metroradio has evolved from a failing radio station network to one of the most lucrative and popular radio networks in Finland. Metroradio has improved its image and increased its listener base. The revenues have quadrupled since 2006. It now has the highest AAA rating in Finland.

Bio

Hello,

My name is Marjo Toner.  I am Finnish-American.  I was brought up in Finland.  As a young adult I wanted to see the world so I went to the United States as an Au Pair. I ended up living in the USA for over 25 years while learning everything about the American way of life.  I received my university education in the USA and I was able to teach English to non-English speakers. Throughout my years I was able to do some translating as a freelancer on a part-time basis.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland in 1993 in Commercial Spanish. During my undergraduate studies I was also required to translate from Spanish to English. I also studied English linguistics and took several writing courses such as Business Writing.  I received my Master of Liberal Arts degree from the University of Denver in Global Affairs in 2014. My courses included some translation courses such as Introduction to Translation and Basic Translation. 

I started my translation career back in 1995 on a part-time basis translating beauty and health related brochures and presentations from English to Finnish.  I have also translated some travel guides from Finnish to English. Later on I have translated telemarketing presentations, rental agreements and other business-related items.  

I have travelled extensively in the USA and lived in three different states.  I relocated to Spain in 2018 where I have been teaching English to Spaniards. I have also taught English online to children in China.  I am very detail-oriented and a hard-worker.  

I look forward to all translation projects so I can show my expertise in Finnish and American English.
