Demeter zocht tevergeefs de hele aarde af naar Persephone. Ze vervolgde haar zoektocht bij de sterrenbeelden, waar ze aan Helice vroeg of zij haar geliefde dochter had gezien. Uiteindelijk was het de godin Hecate die medelijden kreeg met Demeter en haar adviseerde om hulp te vragen aan Helios, de god die alles ziet. Helios vertelde Demeter dat Hades haar dochter had ontvoerd. Demeter was volkomen machteloos tegen de god der doden en in haar treurnis bracht ze een dorre winter op aarde. 		Translation - English
In vain, Demeter scoured the entire earth for Persephone. She continued her search amongst the constellations, where she asked Helice if she had seen her beloved daughter. In the end it was the goddess Hecate who took pity on Demeter and adviced her to seek help from Helios, the god who sees all. Helios told Demeter that Hades had abducted her daughter. Against the god of the dead Demeter was completely powerless and in choked desolation, she brought an arid winter down on earth.
